Gary Medel’s former Sevilla team mate Juan Cala has terminated his contract in La Liga to sign for Cardiff City.

The Spanish club announced on their official site this morning that the decision had been made to terminate the 24-year-old defender’s contract so that he could move to the Premier League.

The free agent, who was a Newcastle United and Getafe target, is in Cardiff to complete a deal to sign for the Bluebirds.

Cala leaves Sevilla having made 19 appearances in all competitions this season, all of which were in the starting eleven, with 9 outings and 1 goal in La Liga, 2 in the Copa del Rey and 8 appearances in the qualifying round and group stage of the UEFA Europa Leage.

Spanish webiste Futbol AS.com said: “Cala already announced earlier this week that he would not renew the Sevilla although his intention was to finalise his contract.

“However, the emergence of a last minute deal, made by Cardiff in playing his former teammate Gary Medel has made his plans change.”
