The Ole Gunnar Solksjær Review

by Thomas Cunningham

Ok, just hear me out. I know it’s only been 7 games-odd, but judging by how clubs evaluate managers after about the same time-period (Meulensteen) I now feel validated to do so. Don’t blame me, blame modern football…I never used to care how the manager got things wrong, as long as they had the best interest of the club at heart. I thought Dave Jones was the best manager in the world for a long time

Lack of experience

Pretty much the same scenario as Cornelius, great in Scandinavia but lots of questions about them being ready to perform in one of the most competitive leagues in world football. Has Solksjær ever experienced a relegation or been in a team bereft of confidence in his playing days? Not at Man Utd.

Board decision: Ole is the perfect fit for Cardiff City.

Opinion: Fulham got rid pretty sharply when they realised they needed an experienced man for a relegation scrap. Our boardroom might of been naive to approach Solksjær under the current league position. The board wanted a big name, but unfortunately their judgement not surprisingly got blurred between big-name player & big-name manager.

Personality

A big plus for Solksjær excellent in building player relationships, fantastic with media & fans. I have heard he has a ruthlessness about him too (Whitts off 38mins) proves that could be the case.

Board decision
Ole is the perfect fit for Cardiff City.

Opinion Right face, wrong time. There are so many good managers out of work more suitable to handling the politics & a relegation scrap. For me Solksjær is more suited to a team geared up to winning most matches, i.e, a better squad than we have in the PL, or championship football.

Signings

This segment is completely unfair to the new lads, and not even I can stoop that low, so I will just concentrate on some I have made my mind-up on.
Fabio:
Kenny Jones:
Mats Moller Dælli:

Board decision Give him a bit of money but not enough to buy a decent centre-forward that could have kept us up. Not willing to gamble to that extent.

Opinion:

Fabio is garbage, brought in another to play right-back when the most consistent has been McNaughton who has been there for 8 years-odd (where’s the loyalty in football gone?) KTC is also a contender for RB, Brayford on loan…just a bit of a joke all round. Kenny Jones is nothing special. Mats Moller Dælli is the most exciting prospect at Cardiff since Ramsey in my not so humble opinion
