Not the creative football many Cardiff City fans hoped to see but . . . .

Professional, hard working, disciplined performance.

They would be the words I would use to describe our performance this afternoon but it is far from the creative attacking football that many fans were hoping to see under Ole.

But I am happy with that to be honest.

I have always been a fan of the traditional 4-4-2, big man, short man up top. A solid back line that is organised and with an effective defensive midfield in front offering our goal two banks of four that is difficult to break down.

The best football I have seen a City team play was under Dave Jones in 2006, McNaughton and Gilbert overlapping the midfield and today’s team selection reminds me of that style of football, we are not as potent as that team yet but we have the squad to become as good if not better. Brayford and Fabio are those types of full backs and I can only see them getting stronger as the season goes.

Of course we would all like to see Cardiff City score goals for fun whilst playing attractive and entertaining football but what I saw today is more than ample to satisfy my needs as a football fan.

It was a good all round organised performance and with more of an attacking threat to come it has to be smiles all round surely?

What I am more than impressed with is that Ole has tightened up the defence, ok we have conceded in each game so far but we are nowhere near the car crash waiting to happen that we were when Ole took over last season.

Tom Adeyemi is in my humble opinion going to be a top player for us this season, he lost his way a little in the second half but I saw enough in his first 65 minutes to believe he will be a main stay and a starter in this team, he is athletic, tough and a box to box player who will get better as the games come think and fast.

Adeyemi, like Daehli, has youth on his side and we as fans should remember that when things don’t quite go the way we hope of the in certain games but these two will prove to be huge assets to Cardiff City football club.

Kenwyne Jones was immense in his duties today, he challenged aerially both in attack and defence and has started his season off brilliantly with three goals in two starts, it seems that Ole is keeping him hungry or just possibly building his stamina and match fitness slowly by taking him off when it appears he has more in the tank but if he carries on as he has started then we got a twenty goal striker in this division before we even look at Le Fondre, Maynard or Guerra.

With Pilkington and Morrison coming into the side, I believe City are more than capable of achieving their goals this season but I do believe that a settled side is more effective than a constantly changed eleven. Ole knows more about football than I could ever dream of knowing and in Ole we must trust but I do hope and judging by today, with just two changes made, we keep a settled eleven and continue to build on the early success we have achieved thus far.
