Gary Field : Will The Cuts To The Playing Squad Damage Our Season?
Will The Cuts To The Playing Squad Damage Our Season?
and I’m not talking about any Promotion challenge as my concern is well and truely focused on reaching 50 points as soon as we can.
With the departure door still well and truely open I am concerned that we are entering a crucial stage of the season with barely enough players to select a matchday squad, and then the options open to RS are pretty much limited.
With David Marshall not travelling with the team for tomorrows game it will be fingers crossed nothing happens to Simon Moore because we have NO experienced cover. With Bruno Manga away at the African Cup of nations our back 4 is pretty much nailed on as Brayford, Morrison, Turner and Malone. That will leave any places on the bench for Fabio, John, Connolly and Gabbidon but surely RS could only select a maximum of 3 of those.
In midfield again our 4 players pretty much pick themselves with Whittingham, Gunnarsonn, Noone and Adeyemi likely, in my opinion, to start the match. That only leaves Ralls, Harris and maybe Kim for the bench. With Dikgacoi and Pilkington injured and Burgstaller frozen out RS is hardly spoilt for choice or options.
Upfront with both Jones and Macheda carrying knocks that only leaves Le Fondre and Revell likely starters with our only remaining forward Maynard frozen out. In my opinion this policy of freezing players out beggars belief and will again, in my opinion, leave us with a bench dominated by defensive players.
We seem to have gone backwards 5 years to when DJ would have 23 or so players to work with, but right now RS doesn’t even have that number. RS is on record saying he wants another 2 or 3 players and in my opinion the club should be moving heaven and earth to get them for him.
Until that happens the club need to stop freezing players like Maynard and Burgstaller out before they follow the same track as Guerra and Daehli or this could be a very very long season.
