Carl Curtis : From the players Cardiff City have, I would choose these

After we recently covered every player in our squad on this forum recently, it got me thinking that should certain players be subjects of bids or even sold, I wondered what players I would allow to leave that I believe would not have the biggest negative effect on the squad.

I have named a team below that I fully expect every reply will have at least one disagreement with me.

The inclusion of Simon Moore, Declan John and Kenwyne Jones, I fully expect to receive the biggest debate.

The team I have named is purely based on players we have and not anyone who we are linked with or someone I would like to see join us.

Obviously there will be movement, in and out, during the transfer window but I wanted to focus on those who are here and out of those players who I think offer the most to the team.

I would like to see us focus more on youth than we have previously and that is behind the inclusion of John, Ralls, Kennedy and Mason.

With cost cutting still on the agenda, I believe keeping our talented younger players is essential but we still need a good mix of experience in the team to hopefully give us a better chance next season than go all out with youth.

I believe, if an acceptable bid for Marshall is received and accepted then he deserves to be playing at a higher level than he is with us at present and I would thank him for his service and allow Moore the chance to be our number one keeper for the foreseeable future.

Turner and Manga are two rocks I would hope we have as centre halves next season and pray we can hold on to Manga.

Peltier has proved to be a good acquisition and would keep his place for me.

Declan John is Welsh and young enough to learn his trade in a team with the experience of Turner to guide him.

Midfield has to have creativity and I think Kennedy and Ralls will provide drive and energy to a stagnant midfield, which I also believe has been problematic for a number of years for City.

Gunnarrson provides the experience in the centre and Pilkington is more than an able winger, again someone who I feel would help John on the left hand side.

Kenwyne Jones is perhaps the most controversial inclusion, high wages and labeled ‘lazy’ by many fans, he is our top scorer and I genuinely feel he is still the best we have in our squad to provide the bustle and goals as well as a defensive asset when defending set pieces.

Joe Mason as the fox in and around the box playing off Jones, would score goals if given a run of games.

My team based on what I have written above would be :

Simon Moore

Lee Peltier
Bruno Manga
Ben Turner
Declan John

Matty Kennedy
Aron Gunnarrson
Joe Ralls
Anthony Pilkington

Kenwyne Jones
Joe Mason

Subs

Joe Lewis
Matthew Connolly
Fabio
Tom Adeyemi
Peter Whittingham
Eoin Doyle
Kadeem Harris

I would sell Marshall, Morrison, Noone from players who were regulars last season.

Dikgacoi is a player that if he can regain his fitness is someone who should not only be challenging Adeyemi for a sub spot but also gunning for Gunnarrson’s place in the starting eleven.

I am not a fan of Malone and as a result is the only reason I have included Fabio, otherwise the Brazilian would be heading out the exit but Fabio offers more versatility so therefore remains.

Revell and Macheda are two others who , for me anyway, don’t offer enough to be included in the match day squad.

As I said above, I doubt many, if anyone, agrees with my choices but it is all about opinions.

What 11 would you start with and what reasons for their inclusion ?

And why would you drop others or even sell ?
