Officially 156 City fans made the long trip to the North East tonight to face a Middlesbrough team pushing for automatic promotion.

The bluebirds were in confident mood heading to the Riverside after Saturday’s demolition of another promotion contender Brighton.

Despite taking the lead through a fantastic strike from Fabio, City were making far too many mistakes all over the pitch and in particular Manga and Connolly looked to be out of sorts more than most.

The centre back pairing had a difficult night from the first minute and it didn’t get much better throughout the ninety minutes.

City could have lost by more, Marshall made a penalty save, had Borough’s strikers taken the opportunities that came their way.

City had chances themselves to score a couple more goals themselves but Dimi made a couple of brilliant saves to keep the bluebirds at bay.

I was confident of getting something from the game heading up there tonight but even at 1-0 it was hard to see City keeping a clean sheet, Borough used the width of the pitch and stretched our midfield and defence time and time again.

I am not disheartened by the defeat, disappointed by the loss yes but don’t feel let down by the players.

City have played some good football of late and Middlesbrough showed real quality tonight so onwards and upwards I am looking forward to Preston at home on Saturday.
