Vincent Tan has splashed the cash to get Rickie Lambert to sign for Cardiff City.

With time running out City were desperately trying to get a deal done to give Paul Trollope the striker he wanted.

Tan has backed the move by agreeing to pay high wages to get a goal scorer.

The wages, including the signing on fee, in the absence of a transfer fee, I am told is £32k per week.

Also if Lambert achieves 20 appearences either this season or next then it will trigger a 3rd year with City on a reduced wage in that third year if Lambert decides to go with an extra year.

I know it has been suggested elsewhere that the package was believed to be £2m but I am told it is slightly over £3m for the two years, with a 3rd year on offer if Lambert makes the 20 or more appearances in one of the two season deal.

With over £4m off the wage bill each season with the release of Le Fondre, Macheda and Dikgacoi plus the sales of Marshall, Fabio and Moore then City released a lot of wages which included 4 players who weren’t near the first team so it has freed up funds for the club to push the boat out a little.

I am pleased with the signing and hope that Lambert can score the goals during games when chances arise to take the pressure off the rest of the team.

Lambert is a goal scorer, can we supply enough chances for him to succeed his probably the pertinent question.
