Russell Slade optimistic over Bruno Manga injury as scans reveal no major damage.
Cardiff City medics have revealed good news on injured centre-half Bruno Manga and manager Russell Slade says: “His injury doesn’t look as serious as we initially feared.”
Manga suffered a knee injury during the Bluebirds’ 1-0 win against Sparta Rotterdam in Holland and had scans in hospital on Monday.
The Bluebirds boss described the injury as a ‘devastating blow’ but scans have show there is no major ligament damage.
“It’s terrific news,” said Slade.
“We can have a little bit more optimism about Bruno because his injury doesn’t seem to be as bad as perhaps we thought initially.
“We are hopeful he won’t be out for long.”
Gabon international Manga, Cardiff’s player of the year in 2014-15, is still likely to miss the opening Championship fixture against Fulham at home on Saturday week, but could be back soon after that.
Doctors are still waiting for inflammation around the knee to settle down before they will make an exact diagnosis, but it is hoped Manga will only miss two or three fixtures at the most.
Ben Turner, who is recovering from ankle surgery, is also making good progress, while Slade is likely to turn to the experienced pairing of Sean Morrison and Matt Connolly against Fulham.
It looks certain they will play against Premier League new boys Watford in Tuesday’s friendly at Cardiff City Stadium (7.45pm). Gunnarsson is doubtful with a minor hip injury.
