‘ LETS TALK ABOUT THE GAME ITSELF ‘

‘ The game itself ‘

Ipswich/Cardiff City

Leaving the Bamba incident aside for a moment I felt today was a lost opportunity.

Ipswich were very poor and we really should have been looking to get three points from the game. Strange line up – Joe Bennett in midfield was an experiment that really didn’t work and a bit strange when you think that midfielders like O’Keefe and Immers weren’t even in the squad.

City started really well and Gunnar rattled the post early on with a great shot. Then we let Ipswich get back into the game and once more the game seemed to pass our midfield by. Our play was long ball followed by long ball, with constant reliance upon Gunnars unsuccessful long throws. again we seemed to be second best at every loose ball and knock down.

However, come half time I thought we’d done well and restricted them to one or two long shots.

Just after the restart however came another example of the defensive incompetence that must have Warnock tearing his hair out. Backing off players, a dreadful clearance straight to one of their players on the edge of the box and a cross which found one of their players by the penalty spot with no defender anywhere near him, and yet again we had conceded a desperately poor goal.

Then came Bamba’s moment of madness, after which we did really well to hold on for a draw. Having said that, the fact that Ipswich huffed and puffed so ineffectively against 10 men showed just how poor a side they are.

In fact we had the best chances to win the game at the end with Bruno being denied twice by their keeper and Noone’s last kick of the game going just wide.

A decent point but a game we should have been able to impose ourselves on far more and a vital win would have been well within our grasp.
