” ONE OF THE PLAYERS NEIL WARNOCK WANTED WAS INJURED AFTER A SWOP DEAL WAS AGREED ”

Cardiff City manager Warnock on transfer day sent out on loan Emyr Huws, Stuart O’Keefe and Matthew Kennedy leaving Cardiff rather light in that department for the rest of this season, but Warnock was still hoping to bring players in to replace them.

But one player who nearly never went out after a deal failed, asked to leave himself and even take a pay cut, as Ipswich Town could not afford his wages and that player was Emyr Huws.

Neil Warnock wasn’t able to guarantee Emyr Huws a first team place at Cardiff City and so Warnock had agreed a deal to do a straight swop for another player, but Warnock found out that the player he wanted was injured and so the deal was called of.

Warnock stated “I was going to do a straight swap but unfortunately the player I wanted to swap was injured.”

Speaking about his move to Portman Road, the Cardiff manager said: “There aren’t many lads like Emyr, i could not guarantee him a place in the Cardiff team” said Warnock.

“So he came to see me and said he’d take a drop in wages to play. How many people say that, everybody just wants to stay put normally and take the wages. He wanted to go.”

“I didn’t want to stop him and Mick’s (McCarthy) the Ipswich manager is a great pal of mine. I thought it’d give them another body really.”
Huws 23 years old, made only one appearance for the Bluebirds under Neil Warnock and that came in the 2-1 defeat to Fulham in the third round of the FA Cup.

“Huws has not had a look in with me,” Warnock confirmed.

“He’s a lovely lad, and it shows how much he wanted to play because he’s paying some of his own wages. It’s unheard of for me, so it shows how much he wanted to go there. There aren’t many lads like Emyr. He came to see me and said he’d take a drop in wages to play.”
Neil Warnock did not sign Emyr Huws, he inherited him and it is likely many players this summer will have to depart from Cardiff City for Warnock to bring in the player’s he feels he needs for next season.
