Peter Whittingham was given a new contact when Cardiff City gained promotion to the Premier League and the rise from was believed to be as big as up to £25,000 a week.

Peter Whittingham is nearly 33 years old and for the last two years has been in and out of the Cardiff City team.

Whitts contacts runs out this June,Whitts was offered a new contact a few months back and it is believed it was approx £10,000 a week with bonuses etc depending on the amount of appearances etc.

Whitts never signed the new contract and a couple of months later the contract was withdrawn for now.

Neil Warnock only has a small budget for the 2017-18 season,so Warnock is limited in what he can offer and also how much Warnock himself rates Whittingham.
But on Saturday Whittingham against Brentford gave one of his best performances of the season.

Peter Whittingham cast a nice shadow over Cardiff City Stadium again on Saturday and his movements and the precision of his passing – for a while it came flooding back and Whitts looked pure class.

For many Cardiff City supporters, his performance evoked memories of years gone by. The class Whittingham years returned.

The big question is,can Whittingham play consistently to that level every week and thus be involved in Neil Warnock’s ambitious bid for promotion next season?
Neil Warnock says he already has 90% of his plans in place for a potential promotion push next season.
NEIL WARNOCK:

“We had discussions and couldn’t quite reach an agreement,” said Warnock on March 31st this year.

“We’ve spoken to Peter about a compromised contract and until I know the figures I don’t know what we can offer.”

“We will speak again after I have my full budget in place”
