Neil Etheridge will become a free agent

Earlier in the week Walsall’s goalkeeper Neil Etheridge was offered a three year contract in a bid by the club to keep the Philippines goalkeeper at Walsall.

Etheridge has not signed the contract and his current contract expires this June.

Neil Etheridge was believed to be on his to newly promoted Sheffield United, but his agent has been speaking to Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City.

Walsall are likely be looking for a new number 1 goalkeeper after releasing Craig MacGillivray this week and the probable departure of Etheridge also looks likely.

Etheridge will be a free agent come this June and it looks like Sheffield United and Cardiff City will be battling it out for his signature.

The 27-year-old has been a regular in the Walsall side, making 43 appearances for the club this season as the Saddlers finished 14th in League One.

The Chelsea youth product has won 53 caps for the Philippines and has previously has spells with Bristol Rovers, Crewe and Oldham.
